Description
The Toledo Museum of Art invites artists to collaborate with glass artists in their Guest Artist Pavilion hotshop. This residency is offered to artists who may either be trained in the glass arts or, as in my case, do not typically use this medium as their form of expression. The museum’s gaffers assisted me in realizing several pieces during a 10-day residency. The Guest Artist Pavillion Project’s collaborative structure supported complete freedom to explore the medium’s relationship to my thinking. The drawings I brought along addressed new and old tendencies in my work: inflation, delicacy, and mixed media. Glass seemed to call for PINKNESS — not normally my go-to color — and the impracticality of a kinetic potential in the finished object. Thus, “they” has small stoppers around its midriff that can allow for rolling and bumping, going along on an inelegant teetering gait.
