Materials and Dimensions
Aluminum tubing, aluminum plate, water-jet cut sheet aluminum, stainless steel screen, poplar wood, oil paint on wood, rare-earth Neodymium-Iron-Boron magnets. 13'W x 7'H x 13'D Description
Shadows overlap and interweave the kinetic and stationary elements of this sculpture to create a dance of light and shadow writing on the walls. Two parts of the sculpture work as counterpoints to one another: a stationary aluminum frame which is suspended from the ceiling and a rotating bearing ring that twirls delicate, poofy stainless steel screen forms within the frame. The bearing ring design is based on a magnetic levitation device allowing for silent rotation within the air stream of fans in adjacent walls. |
