Debris harvested from neighborhood cemetery after the Obon ceremony (Japanese festival of the dead) in a small village outside of Utsunomiya, Japan. 30"H x 20"D x 20"W This performative head puppet "mikoshi" was part of a project during my 6-month fellowship through the Japanese-US Friendship Commission (JUSFC). It was built for one of my hosts whose deep and resonant voice immediately struck me as the correct performer for the piece. See video below.
